Scientific Research in Industry

This chapter proposes different solutions oriented toward the realization of scientific units in industry, the formulation of a research project, the definition of innovative topics as patent claims, and methodologies to follow for project management (PM). It analyzes different research topics, including informatics, sensors, electronics, and mechatronics. The chapter provides different templates useful for the researcher to write an industry research project as a principal investigator. A research unit industry must be structured by multidisciplinary skills by defining a strategic research plan according to the industry business models. The production of a diagnostic machine involves different technologies and sensors to be implemented on board. The upgrade in Industry 5.0 production is achieved by implementing mechatronic boards able to control and automatically refine the production. A project development is followed and managed by a PM. The main work of the PM is to update the detailed Gantt diagram and to check the progress of the task.
