This interview gives occasion for a wide-ranging reflection. The author talks with the interviewed on the significance of scientific acquisition in the field of social sciences and on the role that literature and sources have for Roman law research. Then the conversation turns to topics such as continuity and discontinuity in research, current diffusion of juridical positivism, and the possible role of Roman law in the process of European integration. In the final part the interview concerns some themes observed from a domestic perspective, such as the Italian “scientific schools” of the recent past and in our time, and contemporary university structures.
