In the digital transformation age, technologies that optimize decision-making processes, especially with the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), significantly enhance the potential for collaboration within Innovation Ecosystems. This indicates the value of building an AI-based innovation ecosystem. Our study aims to explore how emerging trends in AI platforms and technologies shape innovation ecosystems, allowing novel forms of value creation. Employing a structured literature review, the study examines 244 relevant publications collected from the Scopus database. Findings led to the introduction of a new paradigm—the “AI innovation ecosystem.” Through it, organizations can transform their traditional operating models into more agile, innovative, and value-driven businesses. The development of a framework about AI’s impact on innovation ecosystems highlights fundamental key points for optimal decision-making processes emerging from the collaboration among several actors. To better understand how AI adoption and collaboration influence an ecosystem, the “AI-Collaboration Matrix” was also developed to propose four main categories of AI-based Innovation Ecosystems. Together, these new frameworks provide a comprehensive tool for organizations seeking to capitalize on AI’s transformative power in a collaborative and innovative context. Finally, the paper highlights AI’s promise for innovation ecosystems to create value beyond economic gains, aligning with societal benefits and environmental sustainability.

Abstract
Finally, the paper highlights AI’s promise for innovation ecosystems to create value beyond economic gains, aligning with societal benefits and environmental sustainability.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
