BACKGROUND: Posterior shoulder dislocation(PSD) is commonly associated with a history ofstrong excessive muscle contraction (generalizedseizures, electric shock) and may result from highenergyinjuries such as a motor vehicle accident.i CASE PRESENTATION: A 58-year-old recreationalcyclist reported night pain and functional limitationsin his left shoulder, due to a trauma occurring 7months earlier. The patient’s history and clinical examinationled the physical therapist to suspect PSD.Therefore, the patient was referred to a surgeon foradvanced imaging, which confirmed PSD as well asan associated McLaughlin lesion and rotator cuff tear.i OUTCOME AND FOLLOW-UP: Reverse totalshoulder arthroplasty was performed, followed bya 12-week rehabilitation program. Muscle strengthassessment, the Shoulder Disability Questionnaire,and the Medical Outcomes Study 36-ItemShort-Form Health Survey were used to assessoutcomes.i DISCUSSION: The diagnosis of PSD with anassociated McLaughlin lesion is often delayed.This case report highlights the importance of athorough clinical assessment, which is mandatoryto identify pathologies requiring multidisciplinarymanagement.
