In this article we investigate the finance-innovation nexus. We use data from the European Innovation Scoreboard of the European Commission in the period 2000-2019 for 36 countries. We found that the finance and support of R&D and innovation is positively associated to “Average Annual GDP Growth”, “Basic-School Entrepreneurial Education and Training”, “Innovation Index”, “Intellectual Assets”, “Lifelong Learning”, “Private Co-founding of Public R&D Expenditure”, “Public-Private Co-Publications”, “R&D Expenditure Public Sector”, “Tertiary Education”, “Venture Capital” and negatively associated to “Design Application”, “Employment Impacts”, “Employment MHT Manufacturing KIS Services”, “Enterprise Birth”, “Foreign Doctorate Students”, “Government Procurement of Advanced Technology Products”, “Human resources”, “Linkages”, “Trade Mark Applications”.
